Dolomite Horizons

Alpe Cermis proposes a new itinerary that starts from Villaggio Cermis, at 2,000 metres, amidst multiple wooden houses with pointed roofs. The route leads into silence, away from the cheerful hubbub of skiers and close to nature. As you gain altitude, the view opens up grandly towards the most beautiful peaks of the Fiemme valley and its surroundings: the Latemar, the Catinaccio, the unmistakable outline of the Pale di San Martino, the Sella. The arrival is at Paion del Cermis, 2,200 metres, a natural terrace with a 360° view. Here the panorama is to be snapped at once: the Marmolada, Cevedale and Sassolungo are added to the list of top peaks surrounding this wonderful place. But these are not the only ones! It is up to you to discover them all, thanks to the ‘Panoramio 360°’ observation point, a panel that allows you to identify and name the wonders that fill your gaze. You can return along the same route, or you can take advantage of the chairlift.

Directions to follow:

The start of the itinerary is upstream of the two cable cars that take you from Cavalese up to 2,000 metres: Cavalese – Doss dei Laresi cable car and Doss dei Laresi – loc. Cermis cable car. The journey takes about 20 minutes, after which, once at the start, you forget the lifts and continue on foot. In order to take the path, it is necessary to pass through the ‘Villaggio del Cermis’, a series of small, private chalets that are extremely picturesque. Heading towards the summit of Cermis, the snow-laden pine trees protecting the village thin out to make way for low shrubs and the view: the forest opens like a window towards the eastern part of the Fiemme valley, as far as the Marmolada. But the higher you go, the more the panorama becomes 360 degrees, embracing no less than 11 Dolomite groups: Brenta, Latemar, Catinaccio, Sassolungo, Sella, Marmolada, Cristallo, Antelao, Pelmo, Civetta and Pale di S.Martino. The walk does not present any particular difficulties. After a section of steeper terrain, we ascend parallel to the ski slope until we reach the 2,200 metres of Paion del Cermis. A few steps from the hut is the ‘Panoramio 360°’ observation point for peaks and mountain groups.
