Tour discovering the "Gazolin tree"

mtb

Difficulty: Easy

Departure: Cavalese cable car forecourt

Arrival: Fondovalle Station

Drop: m. 420

Tot. Km: 8.6

Duration: 1:30 hrs approx.

Once you have reached Doss dei Laresi (1280 m) by cable car, follow the signs “Discovering the Natural Monuments”. Along the trail you can admire a true monument of woodland architecture, the "Gazolin tree".

Il pezo del Gazolin

The moss completely covers the ground, the sound of water is always near at hand. That great trunk suddenly appears on the side of the road. Besides the dimensions of the tree, you will be surprised by the architecture of its branches, numerous and robust, each inserted in that great trunk with a peculiar hump, allowing for firmer attachment to the mother plant. It looks like a ladder going right up to the top. “Trees are ladders that take our thoughts high up there.” The “Pezo del Gazolin” is still growing strong; every year it pushes up a further thirty or so centimetres. The trunk’s diameter also grows by about one centimetre… at this rate who knows how big it will be in 100 or 200 years’ time!

Then back to the Fondovalle station, from where you can return to Cavalese with the lift facility.

Note: The roads may be used by forestry vehicles. It is important keep a moderate speed when riding downhill to make sure you always have control of your mountain bike.

The itinerary continues along path number n°8 towards Salanzada, the ideal place for a nap surrounded by green meadows and woods. At a crossroads, you can either go back to the Fondovalle station along path n°10, or follow the signs to the monumental trees and reach Cascata. Then back to the Fondovalle station, from where you can return to Cavalese with the lift facility.
