RAMBLES AT LOW ALTITUDE
What is more wonderful on a bright, sunny summer day than taking a hike surrounded by the green of the meadows and woods of Val di Fiemme? Here are two itineraries that are really easy and ideal for everybody, filled with the ancient charm of history and nature!
1. On the trail of history in the midst of nature…
on the map route n°13
Your hike starts off from Cavalese. Get ready to go back into the past and let yourself be surprised by the natural beauties. From Cavalese you will follow the signs and go through the Pieve Park from where you will reach San Valier along the old Fiemme paths. You will see what remains of the old church dedicated to Saints Valerio, Clemente and Apollonia in 1162, today deconsecrated. Legend has it that it was a fortress in around the year 1000. Then by following the path that crosses the green meadows characteristic of our valley you will arrive at the old Segheria Veneziana Sawmill in the municipality of Cavalese.
Now you are just a stone’s throw from the spectacle of the waterfall on the other side of the Avisio river. The return trip will be an easy stroll (Fiemme cycle path) all the way to the Fondovalle station.
2. In search of the "Natural Monuments"
on the map route n°12
A plunge into nature in search of the natural marvels. You will start your hike after reaching Doss dei Laresi with the ski-lift. In addition to our signs, you will also find wooden boards along the itinerary that will indicate the precise location of the trees. All you have to do is abandon yourself to the enchantment.
"LE COLONNE DELLA CASAIA"
"Trees are the columns that hold up the sky", is what the American Indians say, to then wisely add, "…if they fall, then the sky will fall on us, too" [....]. It's legitimate to reflect on the many values of the wood and on the fact that if there were no trees, there would be no chance for life - not even for us humans. These two firs, side by side on the edge of the road, are truly tall, straight columns with foliage sprouting from the trunk very high up, more than 30 metres in height. In the city of trees, the Columns are the skyscrapers. They are surely to be numbered amongst the tallest firs of Val di Fiemme and of the entire Alpine arch.
"IL PẺZO DEL GAZOLIN"
...Musk that covers everything on the ground, the sound of water always close by. That big trunk all of a sudden seems to be right on the edge of the road. What is surprising in addition to the size of the tree is the architecture of its branches, many and strong, each one joined to that trunk with a peculiar hump to make the bond with the mother tree more secure. It looks like a rung ladder that goes all the way to the top. ‘Trees are the ladders that carry our thoughts upward, all the way up…’. ‘Pèzo del Gazolin’ is still strong and healthy. Every year it pushes its peak upward by more than 30 centimetres, and even the diameter of the trunk grows by about one centimetre. At this rate, who knows what it will be like 100-200 years from now!
