pezo gazolin"LE COLONNE DELLA CASAIA"
"Trees are the columns that hold up the sky," is what the American Indians say, to then wisely add, "…if they fall, then the sky will fall on us, too" [....]. It's legitimate to reflect on the many values of the wood and on the fact that if there were no trees, there would be no chance for life - not even for us humans.  These two firs, side by side on the edge of the road, are truly tall, straight columns with foliage sprouting from the trunk very high up, more than 30 metres in height. In the city of trees, the Columns are the skyscrapers. They are surely to be numbered amongst the tallest firs of Val di Fiemme and of the entire Alpine arch.
"IL PEZO DEL GAZOLIN"
...Musk that covers everything on the ground, the sound of water always close by. That big trunk all of a sudden seems to be right on the edge of the road. What is surprising in addition to the size of the tree is the architecture of its branches, many and strong, each one joined to that trunk with a peculiar hump to make the bond with the mother tree more secure. It looks like a rung ladder that goes all the way to the top. ‘Trees are the ladders that carry our thoughts upward, all the way up.’ ‘Pezo del Gazolin’ is still strong and healthy. Every year it pushes it peak upward by more than 30 centimetres. Even the diameter of the trunk grows about one centimeter… at this rate, who know what it will be like 100-200 years from now!

 3. "Cermis in MTB"

On the map: routes no. 9 and 12
Difficulty: Medium
Departure: Cavalese, cableway square
Arrival: Fondovalle stationcascata
Difference in height: m. 1172
Tot. km: 15
Travel time: about 2 ½ hours

Leaving Cavalese, you can rent your bike and start out on your tour.
By using the lifts, you can reach Cermis (if you want to travel the entire route) or stop in Doss dei Laresi for the shortened route. Take forest road no. 9 that leads to Doss dei Laresi along a constantly downward route. Along the route, the ‘Via del Bosco’, you will discover interesting educational items for young and old alike. Then continue down path no. 8 in the direction of Salanzada, where you can rest amidst the green of the meadows and woods. Here you can decide to either go back to the valley floor station along path no. 10 or follow the signs of the monumental trees to arrive in Cascata.
Remember that forest vehicles also travel down the roads, so keep to a moderate speed going downhill so as to always maintain control of your mountain bike.
Follow the route and have fun!
The return by bike is at the valley floor station, from where you can easily go back to Cavalese with the ski-lift.
